Metlika Town Band and Tržič Wind Band in Tržič

Metlika Town Band was first mentioned in 1829 by a Metlika native, linguist and collector of ethnological material, Ivan Navratil. He mentioned the Metlika musician twice more: when the town of Metlika acquired new bells in 1847 and a year later, when the Austrian emperor Ferdinand I. declared a new constitution and “the music ensemble played through the town”. The official year when the Metlika Town Band was formed is considered 1850, which means that instrumental music has been a part of life in Metlika for more than 170 years.

Despite their “age”, the musicians in the band are young and continue to impress their audience with a diverse repertoire. At the Cobblers Sunday festival in Tržič they will join forces with the Tržič Wind Band and you will surely miss your dancing shoes.
