Kostanjevica na Krki: To painters, sculptors, winemakers
In the oldest and also the smallest town in Dolenjska, the Cistercian monastery was established back in the early 13th century. The mighty building with arcade corridors has housed the renowned Božidar Jakac Art Museum for almost half a century, and the monastic gardens boast wooden sculptures which have been created within the International Sculpture Symposium called Forma Viva since 1961. The monastery complex houses the Cvičkova klet wine cellar, the place where winemakers united in the Cviček Consortium come together – to celebrate a truly special wine with a well-established traditional origin. Get to know all its secrets at the guided tasting.
The experience includes:
- Tour of the galleries with the works of renowned Slovenian artists (Božidar Jakac, France and Tone Kralj, Janez Boljka and others) and collections of old masters (owned by the Pleterje Charterhouse)
- Tour of the lapidarium and the former monastery church – now a venue for temporary exhibitions and special exhibition projects
- Tour of the gardens within the monastery complex with the sculptures of the International Sculpture Symposium Forma Viva
- Experience of the Cvičkova klet wine cellar within the gallery in the monastery complex – with a guided tasting of three wines accompanied by the typical local salt cake Cop na lop or a guided tasting of 5 wines with homemade snacks, in the Jelenič wine cellar*
